Pretend Bakery Board - Wooden Play Food Colourful Wooden Play Food (3+ Years)
- ⭐ 9 wooden treats, magnetic clasp slice and rejoin cleanly
- ⭐ Ages 3 and up first fractions become playtime fun
- ⭐ Gift wrapped in signature packaging ready to give at once
A wonderful new addition to our Let's Pretend range and the perfect accompaniment to our fruit & vegetable boards.
A fun and unique design, our Let’s Pretend Bakery Board features 9 different sweet treats and bakery products. Your Bakery Board comes complete with a perfectly sized, solid wood pretend knife for children to slice their treats in half with and a solid wooden base with specific slots for each snack. The treats on our Bakery Board feature a magnetic clasp for easy reconstruction.
Suitable for children aged 3 years and up, the toy teaches kids the concept of fractions and halves. Kids will recognise that halves are 2 equal parts of a whole when looking at our croissant, donut, and pretzel. They should begin to make the connection that although the chocolate slice is in 2 parts, the parts are not equal, so it cannot be a true half.
There are endless ways to play with our Bakery Board and hours of fun to be had. Kids can role play being a baker, running a cake shop or being contestants on a baking show, for example. They might even be inspired to have a go at baking a cake themselves! It is the perfect way to allow children to express their imagination and be creative.
Your Bakery Board is made of sustainable wood; it is solid and robust. Your Bakery Board is vibrant and attractive, featuring non-toxic paint for safe play.
Your Bakery Board will be gift-wrapped in signature Jaques of London packaging. We have enjoyed continuous customer satisfaction for over 220 years. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and our exceptional customer service. Perfect toys and games since 1795.

How it compares
| Jaques of London | Typical marketplace version | |
|---|---|---|
| Board and knife construction | Solid wood base with slots cut specifically for each of the 9 treats, plus a solid wood pretend knife sized for children | Generic bakery playsets often use a printed or laminate surface with pieces that do not have a dedicated fitted base |
| Piece reassembly mechanism | Each treat has a magnetic clasp built in so it can be sliced and rejoined repeatedly for years of play | Generic sets typically rely on Velcro or simple friction fit, which loosens and stops holding pieces together over time |
| Educational accuracy | Treats are chosen and shaped specifically to teach true halves, including one deliberately unequal example in the chocolate slice, so the lesson is built into the design rather than added as a label | Generic sets usually label pieces as halves without checking the cuts are actually equal, so the fraction concept is not reliably taught |
| Material and finish | Made from sustainable wood and finished with non-toxic paint, described as solid and robust for repeated handling by young children | Generic imports often use lower grade wood or plastic with painted decoration that is more prone to chipping under daily play |
Questions parents ask
how do I know which Jaques Let's Pretend board to pick
The Bakery Board is designed to sit alongside the fruit and vegetable boards in the same Let's Pretend range, so it works well as an addition rather than a replacement if you already own one. Choose it specifically if you want the fraction and halves learning built in, since the croissant, donut and pretzel split into true equal halves while the chocolate slice deliberately splits into unequal parts. It comes with its own wooden slicing knife and a base with dedicated slots for all 9 treats.
is the bakery board actually solid wood or just painted
The base and the pretend knife are solid wood, and the board itself is described as solid and robust rather than a printed or hollow piece. It is made from sustainable wood and finished with non-toxic paint, so the colour sits on a real wooden surface rather than a plastic shell. This construction is what allows the base to have precise cut slots for each of the 9 treats.
how do the bakery pieces stay together when you slice them
Each of the 9 sweet treats has a magnetic clasp built into it, so once your child cuts a piece in half with the included wooden knife, the two halves click back together for easy reconstruction. This means the same piece can be sliced and rejoined repeatedly during play rather than being a one-time cut. It is a mechanism rather than glue or Velcro, so it resets cleanly each time.
what age is the wooden bakery playset suitable for
It is listed as suitable for children aged 3 years and up. At this age the board is used to teach the concept of fractions and halves in a hands on way, using the croissant, donut and pretzel as examples of two equal parts. The chocolate slice is included specifically to show a case where two parts are not equal, helping slightly older children within that range grasp the distinction.
what comes with the bakery board set
Your set includes the wooden base with specific slots for each of the 9 different sweet treats and bakery products, plus one solid wood pretend knife sized for children to slice the treats in half. Every treat piece has a magnetic clasp so it can be cut and put back together. The set arrives gift-wrapped in signature Jaques of London packaging.
can you play more than just cutting and matching with the bakery board
Yes, beyond the fraction and halving exercise, the board is designed for open role play. Children can pretend to be a baker, run a cake shop, or act as contestants on a baking show using the 9 treats and the base slots as props. The description notes there are endless ways to play with it, so the same set supports both a learning activity and imaginative free play.
is the paint on the bakery treats safe for young kids
The bakery board is described as vibrant and attractive and finished with non-toxic paint specifically for safe play. This matters because the pieces are handled directly and repeatedly cut and reassembled by children aged 3 and up. The board itself is made of sustainable wood, so the safety consideration covers both the paint finish and the material underneath it.
does the bakery board teach anything besides pretend play
Yes, it is built to teach the concept of fractions and halves alongside the role play element. Children see that the croissant, donut and pretzel each split into 2 equal parts, which is a true half, while the chocolate slice splits into 2 unequal parts, which is not. This contrast is included deliberately so children learn to distinguish equal from unequal division rather than just seeing every cut piece as a half.
